So we have finished the head clay sculptures we were working on in class. Now we are moving on to book art? We have been asked to get a book, that we are done reading or don’t need, rip it in to parts that would be used in a sculpture. Not going to lie, I’m not much or a reader, but I felt kind of bad tearing up book that used to have value. The books I picked for the project were Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll and The Diary of Ann Frank. I have always loved Alice in Wonderland, and since I used a lot of the ideas in my clay art I thought might as well try it in book art. I chose The Diary of Ann Frank since I am Jewish I felt a very strong connection to this book. I was also hoping to reflect some of the major concepts in the Holocaust in the book. However, that plan did not work out so well. I than had the idea that I should try making something that represented a concept from Wonderland, and I decided on making a paper Mache Mad Hatter Hat made of the book pages from the book. Below you will see the progress I have made so far on the hat. I made the majority of it, I jut need to add the brim of the hat and it will be finished! I have also posted other examples of what book art looks like. It’s like another world of art when compared to painting and drawing.

Wow – I love the bottom picture! It looks so cool… I would feel awful destroying a book, but they make beautiful art! Your Mad Hatter hat looks great so far!
