Amrita Rao was flooded with wedding proposals from US and Canada post Vivah: ‘They would send pics of their house, moms’

“So when Vivah released, I would get these proposals, and we didn’t have so many smart phones back then, so I would mostly get these letters from guys in Canada and the US. They used to send me photos with their house, their moms and their cars. I used to laugh back then at these things. But now when I look back at it, I think of the impact that one role has, they just want to get married to you. It was so magical,” Amrita gushed.

In an earlier interview, Amrita also had shared how when her now-partner Anmol had seen Vivah with his mother, she wanted Anmol to ‘get her a daughter-in-law like Poonam (Amrita’s character).’

In the same chat, Amrita also spoke about the early mixed reviews of the feature, with a section of critics calling her character ‘regressive.’ However, filmmaker Barjatya said she should not be affected by reviews since it is the audience ultimately who decide the fate of a movie. As it turns out, Vivah revived its lead stars Amrita and Shahid’s careers with its success, as it minted over a Rs 100 crore at the ticket counter.

Vivah was the fourth collaboration of Kapoor and Rao as lead co-stars, and their first working experience with director Sooraj Barjatya.
