Description
The size of the bird is similar myna. A medium sized, heavy billed, grass green barbet with red capped blue head. There is transverse black band above the eyes. The blue of head includes chin and throat and continues till the upper breast where there is red patches on each sides of its body. Sexes alike.

Distribution
It is resident of lower himalayas in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar. Absent above 2000 meters of elevation.

Food
It eats fruits, berries, wild figs as foods. Like other barbets hunts flying termites from air.

Habits
As an arboreal bird it likes to stay in well wooded areas, gardens. It can be spotted also in populated cities if there are sufficient trees. Example - Kolkata. Can be spotted singly or with a group in leafy fruiting trees. The call is similar to brown-headed barbet but with higher pitched. During hot summer multiple calls can be heard continuously from high leafy trees. The style of its flight helps to distinguish it from other birds during flight. The flight is noisy and dipping like a sine curve.

Nesting
March to June is its nesting season. It uses hole in dead tree trunk or branch as its nest. Lays 3 to 4 eggs, white in color.


বিবরণ
আকারে ময়নার চেয়ে সামান্য বড় বা ছোট। মাঝারি আকারের, শক্ত চঞ্চুযুক্ত, ঘাস-সবুজ রঙের বসন্তবৌরি। নীল মাথায় লাল রঙের পট্টি থাকে, চোখের উপরে তেরছা কালো রঙের ডোরা থাকে। মাথার নীল রঙ চিবুক ও গলা পার করে বুকের উপরিভাগ পর্যন্ত বিস্তৃত, যেখানে দেহের দুপাশে লাল রঙের দাগ থাকে। স্ত্রী ও পুরুষ পাখি দেখতে একইরকম।

বিস্তার
ভারতবর্ষের নিম্ন হিমালয়ের সমতলভূমিতে, পাকিস্তান, বাংলাদেশ ও মায়ানমারের বাসিন্দা। ২০০০ মিটারের উপরে পাওয়া যায়না।

খাদ্য
ফল, জামজাতীয় ও ডুমুর জাতীয় ফল এর প্রধান খাদ্য। অন্যান্য বসন্তবৌরিদের মতো উড়ন্ত উইপোকা শিকার করে।

স্বভাব
বৃক্ষাচারী পাখি হিসাবে গাছপালাযুক্ত অঞ্চলে, বাগানে থাকতে পছন্দ করে। উপযুক্ত পরিমানে গাছপালা থাকলে জনবহুল শহরেও থাকে যেমন কলকাতা। একা বা একদল বসন্তবৌরি কে পত্রাচ্ছাদিত ফলের গাছে দেখা যায়। এদের ডাক অনেকটা বাদামী মাথা বসন্তবৌরির মতো। গরমকালে উঁচু গাছ থেকে একটা বা কয়েকটা বসন্তবৌরির অবিরাম ডাক শুনতে পাওয়া যায়। এর ওড়ার ভঙ্গি দেখে একে অন্যান্য পাখি থেকে থেকে চট করে চেনা যায়। আওয়াজ করে সাইন কার্ভের মতো ওড়ে।

বাসস্থান
মার্চ থেকে জুন হল এর বাসা বানাবার সময়। গাছের গুঁড়ি বা ডালের গর্তে বাসা বানায়। সাদা রঙের ৩ থেকে ৪ টি ডিম দেয়।
